The multi-stakeholder discussion on AI policy in the ASEAN region is vital for fostering collaboration among government, industry, academia, and civil society. By uniting stakeholders with varied expertise, this close-door/invite-only discussion will promote constructive dialogue on ethical considerations, regulatory measures, and best practices related to AI development and deployment. The ultimate goal is to ensure that Malaysia's AI policy not only promotes innovation and economic growth but also upholds human rights principles and prioritizes public interest.
Center for Independent Journalism (CIJ), Wikimedia Foundation, Oxfam, and EngageMedia are among the civil society organizations who have been working on rights-based Governance on AI and other emerging tech in Southeast Asia. We are co-convened in providing expert feedback and organizing a dialogue that brings together domestic and international expertise. This session is a side event of the Digital Rights in Asia-Pacific assembly (DRAPAC25), a two-day regional gathering that convenes diverse actors across the Asia-Pacific to shape rights-based digital governance and foster solidarity within the digital rights community.
