Research Intern: Government Documents

To scan annual Malaysian government financial estimates and statements not currently available in digital form

Background

The Sinar Project is an initiative using open technology and applications to systematically make important information public and more accessible to the Malaysian people. It aims to improve governance and encourage greater citizen involvement in the public affairs of the nation by making the Malaysian Government more open, transparent and accountable.  As part of this work, the project develops tools to extract, analyze and make accessible information and data. 

Objectives

To scan annual Malaysian government financial estimates and statements not currently available in digital form.

Duties and Responsibilities

To find, access and scan available financial reports from Parliament or relevant government agency library

  • To find, access and scan government financial estimates and reports
  • To source alternative sources of missing documents
  • To clean and organise scanned documents
  • Any other tasks as needed in support of this objective

Timeframe 

  • Sept - Nov 2019 (20 working days)

Qualifications and Experience

  • Computer skills in organizing documents and basic image editing
  • Research skills
  • Knowledge in using Google Docs/Sheets, social media and other online tools
  • Fluent in English and Bahasa, other local languages an advantage

Candidates are expected to have own laptop. Portable Scanner will be provided.

Terms of Payments

  • RM500 for travel and daily expenses upon commencement
  • RM1,000 upon completion of tasks after 20 working days (6hrs per day)
